A high quality French 8-day red marble clock by S Marti et Cie. The movement has countwheel strike on a bell and has S. Marti et Cie medal de bronze stamped on the back plate with the serial number 2338. The gilded bezel has thick bevelled glass. The lion paw feet and mounts are well cast and finished. The bright enamel dial has blued steel moon poise hands. The case made of Red Griotte marble from the Herault quarry in France, it is sometimes referred to as partridge eye because of its distinctive pattern, this is the best type of griotte. The clock is in good working order and condition. The pendulum is of the correct type but a replacement.
